About

My mantra is.

“Life is an ever changing picture, so look, look again. Only then will you see.”

I am inspired when I hear people describe a piece of my work in many different ways. One monochrome piece was described as a forest scene, a battlefield of Samurai warriors and a cave full of stalactites and stalagmites. It fills my heart to hear people describing my art through their eyes. This is what drives me.’

Encaustic is a Greek word meaning to 'burn in'. It is an art form first practised by the ancient Greeks in the Fifth Century B.C. I have chosen to use this ancient and beautiful art form to create abstract and contemporary works of art.

Nicky creates her pallet from a rainbow of pigmented waxes. Through many years of painting experience as an encaustic artist, she forges her wax into visual and tactile expressions of the world around us.

Born in Devon, England, Nicky moved to an idyllic village nestled in the Tamar Valley of Cornwall, where she currently has her studio. Over the past few years she has fallen in love with the beauty and culture of the Algarve, Portugal, now dividing her time between the two.

Nicky Carole's encaustic abstract works are both distinctive and mesmerising. The combination of the inspiring flora and fauna of both Portugal and Cornwall mixed with her emotions of the moment, enables her to create paintings, which entice and tease one's senses.

Self-taught, there are no templates, borders or boundaries. We experience the full force of her artistic talent. Nicky has spent many years creating techniques with encaustic wax which she fuses into hypnotic images.

Passionate, joyful and darkly compelling, Nicky’s finely honed skills bring us images raw and pure. Each relates to the mood she experiences at the time. Like her feelings, there are no rules only the release of the moment into her art.

Nicky has enjoyed success selling her work in solo exhibitions, galleries and art fairs. She has also completed multiple commissions, resulting in her works being held in private collections internationally.

When I started working with wax, I had a wax seal made with my initials. I place the wax seal in the bottom right-hand corner of each painting. The upside of this is, because I'm abstract, you can orientate each painting in the way that speaks to you.
